User Database Interaction: An Objective Abstraction Level Theory

چکیده

ion levels that can be objectively distinguished and can be applied to smaller units. For example, current definitions of the conceptual level as a level for communications between user and analyst are not fully objective. Well-trained users and analysts may find the relational model easy for communication (Siau, 2004). Or people may simply have different opinions and preferences on the models that best provide ease of communication. Definitions of the conceptual level as a level independent of system implementation are dependent on technology. What is implemented is a moving criterion. These definitions apply to a model, and there is no way to further distinguish smaller units. Figure 1. A Multidisciplinary Framework for (teaching) Human Product Relations

In this paper we introduce a framework for dealing with the complexity of human-product relationships. The actual framework is a matrix of design perspectives, with three cooperating disciplines on the one hand and three levels of abstraction on the other hand. Basis of the framework is the notion that a product cannot be seen as stand alone, yet always is influenced by the user(s). Thus, accor...

Conceptual Level Versus Logical Level User-Database Interaction

User-database interaction can be classified into various abstraction levels. The two higher levels are the conceptual level and the logical level. On the conceptual level, the user talks of things in his world, for example, in terms of entities and relationships. On the logical level, the user talks of things in the database system, for example, in terms of relations and join operations. The us...

A Method for Enabling a Better Comprehension of User Behavior

The work reported here takes place in the educational domain and deals especially with the observation of pedagogical activity. User behavior is observed through the raw traces (log files) of their activity. This method raises two problems: selecting only relevant traces and retrieving a high enough level of abstraction to make these traces clearly understandable by an analyst. A unifying appro...
